Hotels & Accommodation in Rainbow Beach
Aptly named for its rainbow-coloured sand cliffs, Rainbow Beach is a relaxed village resting on the northernmost tip of the Great Sandy National Park (Cooloola).
The town overlooks a pretty beach which until 1976 was home to a large sand mining industry, and looks north toward Fraser Island.
The beach is home to a large propeller, a remnant from the ill-fated Cherry Venture, which now rests on Teewah Beach to the south.
There are a number of walking trails around the area, and it is well worth a visit to the coloured sand cliffs and the Carlo Sand Blow.
The Rainbow Beach area is very popular for hang gliding, paragliding and fishing. A four-wheel drive trail runs from Rainbow Beach south to Noosa, skirting the National Park.
Further north at Inskip Point is the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service office, providing information about Fraser Island and issuing camping and 4WD permits. From Inskip Point, access to Fraser Island is easy by boat.
